Grada Kilomba | Frieze Tate Fund 2020

Goodman Gallery congratulates Grada Kilomba on the recent acquisition by the Tate of her works Illusions Vol. I, Narcissus and Echo (2017) and Illusions Vol. II, Oedipus (2018), made possible by the Frieze Tate Fund, supported by Endeavor.

Alongside Tate’s curators, this year’s selection panel included guest curators Mark Sealy, Director of Autograph and Principal Fellow Decolonising Photography at University of Arts London and Kaelen Wilson-Goldie, writer and critic and contributing editor for Bidoun.

Illusions Vol. I was commissioned by the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, in 2016, and Illusions Vol. II was commissioned by the 10th Berlin Biennial in 2018. Both films were included on Kilomba’s solo exhibition, Poetic Disobediences, at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in 2019. Most recently, the Bildmuseet in Umeå, Sweden, commissioned the third Illusions film, which was shown alongside Vol. I and II in 2019.
