William Kentridge's production of Alban Berg Opera 'Wozzeck' opens at the Metropolitan Opera in New York

Following his acclaimed 2015 production of Lulu, William Kentridge returns to the Metropolitan Opera in New York with his celebrated rendition of Alban Berg’s opera Wozzeck. The opera, which premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 2017, is centred on the experiences of a homicidal soldier – a tale brought to life by Kentridge through his characteristic charcoal drawings depicting bleak landscapes, denuded of their trees and scarred by shell craters. In this production, Kentridge has set the action of the story in the period leading up to the First World War. Performances of the opera will take place from 27 December until 22 January 2020.
