Copies of advertisements regarding destitute children that appeared in the Cape Government Gazette, form part of a memorial to children entitled We are still here. Between 1841 and 1921 some 7000 children were advertised as destitute in the Gazette. If not claimed by someone able to support them they were indentured, presumably as labourers.
