Grada Kilomba: Solo exhibition and catalogue at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brazil

Grada Kilomba’s first solo exhibition in Brazil, Poetic Disobediences , opens at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo on 6 July. Poetic Disobediences presents work by Kilomba which, in the words of a museum press release, “propose a sort of restitution of the voices of those that have been silenced throughout history.” Curated by Jochen Volz and Aléria Piccoli, the museum’s director and chief curator respectively, the exhibition prominently features Illusions, a series of films in which Kilomba adopts the role of a storyteller who retells Greco-Roman myths beside reenactments. The exhibition runs until 30 September.
