Here Is Elsewhere at the Hayward Gallery is the first UK solo exhibition of work by late South African photographer Thabiso Sekgala. The exhibition explores home, place and belonging through photographs of landscapes, buildings and everyday objects. Central to this presentation is ‘Homeland’, Sekgala’s career-defining series depicting the territories established by the apartheid government to house displaced black South Africans, and ‘Second Transition’, a series addressing economic inequality through the lens of the platinum-producing mining town of Rustenburg. The exhibition runs until 6 October. Sekgala’s work will also feature on the ‘Empathy and Hope Project’ from 5 to 29 September at the Durban Art Gallery. The exhibition aims to explore the factors that causes harm to our minds and our health, and to create an awareness of mental health.
