Gabrielle Goliath hosts collaborative ‘Lesser Violence Reading Group’

At her new studio space Gabrielle Goliath has started hosting the Lesser Violence Reading Group, an initiative organised by GALA (Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action) and VIAD (Visual Identities in Art and Design, UJ). The group will meet over four interactive sessions where participants are guided through readings that cover the broad subjects of gender, sexuality, violence and visuality, with an emphasis on performance. The aim of the group is to provide an open platform to discuss issues related to the contemporary South African context, and in dialogue with concurrent discourses from the continent and its diaspora. Each session will be led by a different group of invited presenters involved in the broad fields of activism and social justice, art, performance, theatre, and journalism.
